Policy Statement
The Ambassador BBS Network
We are a linking of Telnet accessible bulletin board systems (BBS), who share a common hobby (BBSing), in order to assist each other by making access to each member board readily available to our collective caller base.
We are open to any SysOp/BBS which supports Telnet out-bound and who meets the network's basic requirements below.
The name, The Ambassador BBS Network, refers to a network of bulletin board systems which act as 'ambassadors' to the collective membership of linked boards.
Terms:
- Network Headquarters: AMBASSADOR BOARD (SysOp: Stephen B. Henry, aka: Mithrandir) will act as the host board for The Ambassador BBS Network.
- Network Administrator: SysOp of network headquarters BBS.
- Network Directors: SysOp of network headquarters BBS and others appointed by him from time to time. Current directors are:
- Stephen B. Henry (Mithrandir),
AMBASSADOR BOARD - bbs.ambassadorboard.net
- Gary Hartzell (Iron Man),
Arena BBS - arenabbs.2y.net
- Network Member: Each individual BBS and SysOp/Co-SysOps associated with it is collectively considered a single member of the network.
- Out-Bound Telnet: any suitable door, program or mechanism by which in-bound callers to any member board can directly link to any other Telnet accessible BBS without first disconnecting from the current BBS connection. Where any question arises, "suitable" will be determined by the Network Headquarters.
Basic Requirements:
- Each prospective member must make application for membership in the appropriate form to the network headquarters by means of one of the following:
- e-mail us with the required information, or
- use the web-based application form.
- Each application for membership must be approved by the network directors.
- Each member board must carry the complete network list of all member boards in a public access "door" or other suitable system where in all boards are accessible to any of the member's regular callers via out-bound Telnet. Links to member boards must clearly indicate the member BBS name and be collected within a door or other grouping used solely for this purpose and clearly titled "Ambassador BBS Netork".
- Member SysOps are free to make other non-member boards accessible by Telnet, but these must be clearly separate from the network member grouping and nothing should indicate that these other boards are members of the network.
- if a member carries so-called "adult" files, games or other materials, they are separate from the public access areas of the BBS and accessible only via a suitably controlled and age-verified method. So-called "adult" boards will not be refused admission to the network solely because of the nature of their chosen content.
- member SysOps must not knowingly carry or distribute any illegal materials or any unauthorized copyright software on their BBS. Although the purpose of the network is to advertise, and facilitate access to, boards offering free entertainment, messages, files, doors, etc., membership in the network will not be refused to a board which supports or undertakes a commercial venture solely for that reason.
- member SysOps shall place one of the acceptable network membership notices within the login screens of their BBS, clearly visible to all callers. No representation of membership in, or advertising of, the network, except the words "member of: Ambassador BBS Network" shall be used in taglines, net- or e-mail, login or other screens, etc., unless approved by network headquarters. Login screen available here.
- member SysOps shall place the Ambassador BBS Network bulletin on their BBS in such a fashion that it shall be easily accessible to callers.
- all members of the network are and shall remain independent operators of their own BBS systems and are fully responsible for all costs, damages and occurances involving their own BBS. Membership in the network conveys no right or privillage with respect to the network headquarters or other member boards. The single and only perpose of the network is to link all members boards together via out-bound Telnet access for the purpose of providing greater exposure of member boards to the calling public.
